Sound Oak Restoration

Ken and I have been married for 32 years. We have lived in four houses and one crappy apartment. While we were living in the crappy apartment, we were literally in the process of building our first home, from the foundation to the roof. Some thought we were a little ahead of our game since we were so young, but since my family was in the business of home construction, we were able to pull it off.

That first home was followed by location, location, location and we opted for the better area and school-district to raise our kids. We moved to the Three Village Area and lived there from 1995 to 2017, but in two different houses.

The dream continued with our third house as we strived to be closer to the water. Our last home on Long Island afforded us with property a few tenths of a mile from Setauket Harbor. We had access to a private beach and were able to keep our boat on a mooring. Not too shabby and it was a dream come true, one that may not be attainable again (but you never know).

Then we moved to North Carolina. The house we purchased is much older with many fine features but different from where we came from in New York. We’re close to downtown, Wilmington and about a seven-mile drive to the ocean.

Why all this background information?

We’re about to launch a new venture. We’re heading into the market of property restoration. We are officially business owners of Sound Oak Restoration. The name we selected has significant meaning to us. It incorporates both our names- I’ll explain in the future.

We have always been a bit of risk-takers and dream-seekers. Now, we’re taking it one step further.

We’re taking on a restoration project. We just purchased a two-family house, built in 1903 (actually it’s older than that-details to follow) in downtown Wilmington. It needs a ton of work, as you can see from the picture below. It’s not one of those beautifully embellished houses but we hope to improve its aesthetic appeal, as we get our feet wet-not literally!

Why not join me as I document this new adventure we’re about to embark upon?

It’s sure to be stressful and fun all at the same time.

We are no Chip and Joanna Gaines, but hopefully, our marriage will remain interacted!!

Isn’t she lovely???

Yeah, it’s a little frightening! (Please don’t judge this book by its cover ;)
