daughters

Yesterday was National Daughters Day, and I missed it! I could ooze words about my girls, but let's just say, my love for them is endless!

Growing up, I always wanted a sister but never had one. I felt like I was missing out on something, but I managed to survive. Later in life, when I started my own family, I wanted my firstborn to be a boy, which became true. When I was having my second child, I was wishing for a daughter. My wish was granted and I was thrilled. She was so beautiful, I couldn’t believe I had a daughter. Then, when I was pregnant with my third child, in my heart I wanted another girl, not because I loved girls more, but because I wanted Sarah to have a sister. Once again, my prayers aligned with what God wanted for my life, and sweet Elisabeth was born. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect family for me; a son and two daughters. Two girls meant sisters, and I celebrate them both.

Fast forward 20+ years to 2019. Sarah is 26 and Elisabeth is almost 23 years old. There is so much I can say about each of them. In some ways, they are very similar and in other ways, quite different. It’s interesting to think about how unique they each are. One would suppose that kids from the same household would be quite similar, but in reality, we all are different. Even if the stability of a family is consistent, circumstances change and therefore influence each child differently.

Like many of yesterday's Facebook posts, which I read today, I too have amazing daughters. My girls continue to teach me so much about life. They open my eyes to the world they live in, which in some ways, is different than mine. Their exposure, their lens, and their view are their own. But who they are, as young adult women, brings me great joy! I know they are a positive influence on those they touch, which is a great delight to my soul.

My daughters are beautiful, kind, and considerate. They make the world a better place.
