Tidbit Tuesday: Cleaning and Wiping

This is really basic, but something I have found to be very helpful.  Let me share.

We all hate cleaning our refrigerator but sometimes it is necessary to take everything out and give it a thorough cleaning. However, this is what I try to do on a daily basis to avoid a nasty refrigerator.

Whenever I put something away, I always have a wash cloth or a microfiber in my hand and I wipe the bottom of the item. I find that most of the dirt comes from the bottom of containers. I don’t ever put things away that don’t have a covering, so what I have found to be the biggest culprit of a dirty refrigerator comes from the store where your products sat before they made it to your shelf.

If I wipe items as a unpack my groceries, I find it reduces the amount of dirt left behind. If there’s an empty spot on a shelf, I just wipe that area before I replace it with something else.

Again, it’s kind of like weeding. If you keep up with it, then it doesn’t become overwhelming.

When I’m finished loading the refrigerator, I’m ready to wipe the handles and outside and I leave it in better condition then it was.

One item I love to use is Norwex microfiber enviro-clothes. There is nothing like this microfiber and I’m not one who likes the way most microfiber’s feel. This one is specially designed that locks in the dirt and keeps surfaces super clean without using any harsh detergents. If for some reason I don’t have a Norwex envirocloth available, I prefer to use a simple thin, white wash cloth which you can buy them in bulk at Costco or at HomeGoods and throw them in the wash everyday. Use one a day. I hate sponges, so I’d rather use 1 washcloth each day instead of using a sponge that grows nasty germs.

Again, this isn’t anything to earth-shattering, (well especially when you don’t use chemicals...love reducing the use of chemicals in my home) but perhaps you might find it to be a helpful tidbit this Tuesday for your home.
